Covered Bridge Art Association will host exhibit by local artists

The Covered Bridge Art Association Gallery on the north side of the square in Rockville will host the Covered Bridge Festival exhibit in October, featuring art work done exclusively by Parke County artists.

Various types of media are used, including oils, watercolors, pastel and pencil. During the festival, several artists will be on hand to create new works of art.

The exhibit will feature not only covered bridges but also landscapes, portraits and florals.

The object for this year's Art Raffle was donated by Bob Foor. It is an inlaid wood veneer depicting the West Union Bridge.

Thirteen different types of wood were used to create the picture. Each piece of wood was carefully selected and placed so that at first glance, it seems to be a painting.

Foor is a native of East Chicago but retired to Parke County for its natural beauty and also because of the gallery and the Parke Players.

Tickets for the raffle are on sale in the gallery.

In addition to the art talent displayed within, the building is a historic treasure. The maple floors and pressed tin ceiling are two items to note.

During the festival, hours will be extended. From Friday through Oct. 16, hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Oct. 17, hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All other times except major holidays, the gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

For more information, contact the gallery at (765) 569-9422. Admission is free.
