Bomb threat made Monday

Tribune-Star Staff Report

A telephone caller to the Terre Haute Police Department early Monday morning threatened that a bomb at the U.S. Penitentiary, Terre Haute, would detonate if Timothy McVeigh was executed.

The call, made to police headquarters inside City Hall, was traced by dispatchers to Carbondale, Pa. The call was not a 911 call, but made long distance to a dispatch line, said Jeff Trotter, assistant chief of police.

The case was referred to the Carbondale Police Department, where no one was available for comment Tuesday.

The call, from a Carbondale Burger King, came two minutes before McVeigh was declared dead, the Associated Press reported. Police took about a half dozen sets of fingerprints to the state police crime lab, the AP reported.
